This study tour to Shenzhen has provided invaluable firsthand insights into China's remarkable development journey under the Reform and Opening-up policy. Through visits to key sites including the Shenzhen Museum, Nantou Ancient City, and Qianhai's innovation hubs, I have gained a multidimensional understanding of how this former fishing village transformed into a global innovation powerhouse while preserving its cultural heritage.

The Nanshan Museum and Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Dream Workshop challenged my preconception that innovation is solely about technology. While Shenzhen is rightfully famous for its tech giants such as Tencent and Huawei, I discovered that innovation here also revolves around ecosystems and policies. For example, individual talents from colleges and universities in Hong Kong and Macao are supported to start businesses in Qianhai. They are provided with one-stop support services and financial aid, including accommodation and transportation, which attract overseas talents and demonstrate the emphasis on human capital. At the Youth Dream Workshop, the video explained how Qianhai's financial subsidies and legal frameworks facilitate young people starting businesses. At the Shenzhen Museum, the exhibits on heritage revitalization projects—such as the adaptive repurposing of historical sites and the digital preservation of traditional crafts—revealed surprising complexities. I witnessed how cultural legacy is being maintained in urban planning.
This tour went beyond being just an academic task; it was an opportunity to discover different aspects of China. Shenzhen’s prosperity involves more than mere accomplishments; it involves experimentation, innovation, vision, and flexibility. I now wish to explore how other cities might draw insights from Shenzhen's policy trials (e.g., SEZ models) and strategies for cultural revitalization. As a secondary student inspired by Shenzhen’s innovative environment, I plan to investigate possibilities in the GBA, where I can participate in cross-border initiatives.
